I used to have a LinkedIn page, but it got so annoying that I decided I might as well put the same information up on my own page, in whatever format I choose.
Timeline
- 1982: Born in South Africa
- 2005: Graduated from the University of Pretoria with a B.Eng. Computer Engineering degree. Started working at Orbweb Engineering Solutions, developing software used in medical testing laboratories.
- 2006: Started working at Trispen Technologies, developing VPN software.
- 2007: Received a B.Eng. (Hons.) Computer Engineering degree, with distinction. Started working as a lecturer at the University of Pretoria.
- 2008: Received a M.Eng. Computer Engineering degree, with distinction. Thesis title: The optimization of gesture recognition techniques for resource-constrained devices
- 2009: Moved to Eindhoven in the Netherlands and started on a Ph.D. Industrial Design degree at Eindhoven University of Technology. Thesis title: Ontologies for interaction : enabling serendipitous interoperability in smart environments
- 2012: Moved to Swansea in Wales and started working at Swansea University as a postdoctoral researcher on the CHI+MED (Computer-Human Interaction for Medical Devices) project.
- 2013: Got married; Co-founded Swansea Hackspace.
- 2015: Started working with Tidepool, developing open-source software to liberate data from diabetes devices
- 2017: Had a baby
- 2018: Moved into our own home
- 2020: Had another baby!
- 2021: Moved again!
- 2024: Launched LabCrafter, an online store selling open science hardware
